Create a Facebook Page

This tutorial is helpful for individuals that would like to create and manage an individual profile, we don’t currently offer any information about how to create a Facebook Page. A Facebook Page, also known as a “Fan Page,” is similar to an individual profile but is for brands, companies, or organizations that want to communicate with their fans or “likes.” A Facebook Page offers additional options an individual profile doesn’t, and according to Facebook’s terms of use, individual profiles are not allowed to be used for organizations or companies. We’ve gotten a few requests for help on how to create a Facebook Page, so hopefully this blog post will get you started!

Create a Facebook Page

To create a Facebook page, you will need to have an individual account first. Once you have that squared away, you’re ready to begin!

Go to this link: https://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php You’ll see six different choices; choose the one that is the best fit for you (don’t worry, you can actually edit this later):
Create Facebook Page
Upon selecting your category, there will be options for you to best choose exactly what entity you are representing. You will then be prompted to type the “Name” of your page. Choose carefully because the name you enter will also be the Page’s URL and you will not be able to change this after you have gotten 200 fans. Try to choose something short and sweet, something people will remember.
At this point, you have officially created your page! But there is still a good bit of work to put into customizing it.

Customize Your Facebook Page

Facebook Page with comments
  1. Admin Panel: Only you and anyone you add as an administrator of the page will see this area. This is where you edit the page and manage settings. If you click on “Show,” you’ll be able to see all the notifications of fan interaction, messages, recent likes, and insights for your page.
  2. Cover Image: This is your main graphic so make it good!  Simply click the icon on the bottom-right area that says “Add A Cover” and upload one from your computer. Your Facebook Page cover image should be 851×350 pixels. Choose an image that is eye-catching and best represents your organization or brand.
  3. Profile Picture: This picture is a permanent fixture on the upper left corner of your Page. It also represents you whenever you post information or links on the page or anywhere else when you are “acting as the page” when you comment or like other pages. A Facebook Page Profile Picture should be 180×180 pixels.
  4. Page Title: Remember: Once you reach 200 “likes,” it’s permanent. The category, however, can be edited anytime.
  5. “About” Section: Include a short, succinct sentence about who you are to introduce yourself to new visitors. Include a link to your website as it will appear as a live link here.
  6. Timeline: This is where you post new information, photos, videos, or events.
As you continue to work on your Facebook Page, explore these options:
  • Use the timeline to your advantage: Add events in the past to give visitors information about your organization’s history.
  • Play with the “Pin to the Top” feature to promote information over several days or weeks (click “edit” on a post and choose “Pin to the Top.”)
  • Highlight an update to give it more exposure (click on the star on a post to highlight)
  • Be sure to interact with your fans! This is an opportunity for a two way conversation; no one is interested in a person that only talks about themselves and then never joins the conversation!
